Dan is now a broken man. He watched a majority of his team get blown up and came out with the least amount of injuries, bearing scars along the left side of his body including his face and worst of all his knee. He thinks himself disgusting, past his sell-by date. He won't take drugs for fear of becoming an addict but he won't accept help either. That is until Sean almost drives right into him on a back road. Sean cements himself into Dan's life whether he likes it or not and helps Dan through his PTSD, his medications, his dreams and the self-consciousness he has with his face. And through all that, they learn what a major role Dan's ancestor played in the death of Curtess and the curse on Belvedere.
I really liked Dan and Sean. They didn't start off on the right foot what with Sean getting angry at Dan for saving him from one of his patients (silly, Sean *shakes head*) and then when Sean almost runs him over, he was still kind of a bastard but then they warmed up to each other. It just took a bit of time and getting to know each other and getting past Dan being all grumpy and brooding and Sean being snarkish to him. However, after they started being friendly to each other, they were so cute and sweet together! Working through their individual issues together and comforting one another *sigh*
Like I said earlier, this book revolves around Dan and Sean and not as much the curse because book one covered the curse mostly. In this book, we get to know Dan and how he's associated with the curse. The pieces we are giving about the curse in The Psychic's Tale start to fall into place and we get to see how it happens with the Soldier and the Healer. It was extremely interesting to me because I was hooked in The Psychic's Tale and I got hooked again in The Soldier's Tale.
All in all, this was another great book. I'm really loving this series and I can't wait to see how breaking the curse will play out now in The Lord's Tale. Definitely recommended.
