When Blood Beckons - Dawn H. Hawkes This was an alright book. It started out really good, I liked Ivan and I thought Mick was kinda cute for taking a risk and following a stranger but the more I read, the more I started to get annoyed. For one, some words were used repetitively, like the same word would be used a few times within a sentence or within two sentences. It was a little jarring for me but then whenever I would start getting into one of the characters speaking, it would switch to the other one (i.e. there would only be a few paragraphs within the section before the pov changed). Normally, I don’t have a problem with this but I think the difference this time was it was actually broken up with asterisk marks and not a continuous flow back and forth with no breaks, does that make sense?

Anyway, the story wasn’t so bad. The vampires (or maybe just Ivan) seemed a little weak. When I think of vampires, I don’t think of them being easily killed just from a bullet. I also thought the fighting scene was a little too short. I felt kind of cheated that someone who’s been following Ivan for such a long time would basically be swept under the rug in less than a full chapter. Maybe that’s just me? Maybe I should start reading books that are actually action-packed? *shrugs* I would have also liked to have learned more about the Council and what the verdict for Ivan illegally changing Mick would have been. Obviously, they couldn’t kill Mick because him and Ivan are mates but to have had a scene where they go through the motions of it would have been interesting.

All in all, this wasn’t the best vampire book I ever read but it certainly wasn’t the worse. If you’re a hard-core vampire fan, I think this will appeal to you. Everyone else, don’t take my word for it, you might like it, too. At least give it a try.
