2.5 starsI'm honestly not really sure what to say about this one. I liked it but it didn't hold my attention and when it did grasp it, the story was almost over.
Riley and Dane are polar opposites. Riley considers himself a geek in cop's clothing. He thinks he's pretty ordinary and boring compared to everyone else and when Dane takes an interest in him he just can't understand why. Dane is eccentric and outgoing but he's also a classic case of don't judge a book by it's cover. He might have model good looks (which he was a model) but he's down to earth, caring and likes the quiet. Riley is everything Dane's been looking for and Dane is everything Riley wishes he could be.
While I really liked these characters, it was a struggle for me to get into this book. I didn't start getting interested in it until more things start happening with finding out about the murderer. And this is where I was kind of disappointed. The main focus of the story is the romance, which I'm cool with, but I wasn't interested in it. Don't ask me why because I honestly don't know why this book didn't appeal to me as much as others just like it but I found myself liking the mystery aspect of it more than the romance and the mystery is only half-way there. We get the beginning of it but not the ending. It's like the idea of the mystery gave the story plot but the author didn't want to deliver on giving us the whole of the mystery so once Riley and Dane make up, the mystery is just swept under the rug so we get tons of info in the beginning about it but by the end of the story, it's just a paragraph describing what happened and who murdered those people. I was disappointed and found it lacking.
On top of the fact that it took me so long to get into the story and how the mystery was half-assed (yes, I know it's not supposed to be the focus of the story but I still wanted a proper resolution to it), I can't recommend this story. Sorry :-(
